Student Volunteer Program
Over the last twenty years, hundreds of Cheyenne students have participated in our well-organized, supervised volunteer program. The program allows students to acquire valuable experience in the field of veterinary medicine. Coming in for a couple of hours after school, or in the mornings during summer or holidays, volunteers get to perform a multitude of chores around the hospital and learn what goes on behind the scenes of a small animal practice. Many of our volunteers have gone on to pursue careers in veterinary medicine and other medical-related fields. We currently have five employees, (including Dr. Church and Dr. Healey!!), who started off in our volunteer program. Volunteers are usually referred to the clinic by their teachers or parents. An interview allows the clinic staff to meet the student and gives the student a feeling of accomplishment if accepted. A certificate and an annual volunteer luncheon is provided for those students who stay with us for at least a month. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to apply and have permission from their parents.
